Vision:
A community in which becoming a philanthropist and volunteer is as valued and desirable a goal as success in athletics, business, entertainment, or any other field.
Mission:
The Vanderburgh Community Foundation will annually recognize and acknowledge those who dedicate their lives and resources to helping others. The Vanderburgh Community Foundation "Spirit of Giving" Award will honor individuals and organizations that make a significant impact on the community by giving of their time and/or resources, and by inspiring and encouraging others to give back to the community. Our goal is to educate the community about the importance of philanthropy, honor those that give, and ensure that the tradition of philanthropy is continued by future generations.
Award Criteria:
Silent Philanthropist
This award recognizes an individual who has quietly demonstrated an outstanding charitable commitment to our community through direct financial support and/or volunteer participation, without a desire for name recognition. The generosity and volunteer efforts of this individual will also have encouraged and motivated individuals or a group to undertake philanthropic or volunteer activities in the community.
The selection will be based on the following:
- Direct financial and/or volunteer support which has quietly yet significantly impacted the work of a nonprofit agency and/or the greater community.
- Significant financial and/or volunteer support to innovative approaches to philanthropy and/or solving a social or community problem.
- Encouragement and motivation of others in the community to participate in philanthropy and community involvement via direct financial support and/or volunteer efforts.
Young Giver
This award recognizes service by an individual or group of young people under age 23 who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to the community through direct financial support, development of charitable programs, volunteering, and leadership in philanthropy.
The selection will be based on the following:
1. Giving of time, talent and/or treasure from a young person or group for the common good of the community or a specific charitable cause or non-profit organization.
2. Impact on the community or the non-profit organization due to the efforts of the individual or group.
3. Encouragement and motivation of others to be involved in the project or organization.
