Trustee Responsibilities

Trustees of the Vanderburgh Community Foundation are expected to:

 

1. Prepare for and attend all board and committee meetings.

2. Participate in at least 50% of all special events of the Foundation, such as the annual donor event, Alliance annual meeting, grants presentation, and scholarship recognition

3. Attend an orientation session and annual board retreat, and stay well informed about the Foundation's mission, services, and policies and seek out opportunities to inform others about the mission and work of the Foundation.

4. Serve on at least one standing committee as assigned and at least one ad-hoc committee and accept tasks and assignments to fully participate.

5. Make an annual financial contribution to the Foundation as a demonstration of commitment to the organization's mission.

6. Actively participate in the identification, cultivation, and/or solicitation of potential donors. Examples include: speaking to civic groups about the Foundation, hosting or attending house parties for donor solicitation, meeting with non-profit agencies about establishing or growing operating endowments, direct solicitation (in person or letters) in coordination with the responsible committee, developing donor solicitation list.

7. Suggest prospective nominees to the Board who can make significant contributions to the work of the Board and the Foundation.

8. Follow conflict-of-interest and confidentiality policies and act in the best interests of the Foundation.

9. Communicate and work in good faith with staff and other Trustees as partners towards achievement of Foundation goals.
