Grants Promote Early Childhood Literacy in Vanderburgh County
Seven nonprofit organizations serving Vanderburgh County have been awarded grants totaling more than $30,000 from the Marilyn J. Klenck Fund for Education and Literacy:
> 4C of Southern Indiana for the Power of Parenting-Parents as Teachers Program
> Culver Family Learning Center for the Literacy Connections Program
> Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center for the Enhancing Literacy Program
> Evansville ARC for the School-to-Home Literacy Program
> Evansville Christian School for the Ready-for-Reading Summer Literacy Program
> Potter's Wheel for the Reach Out and Read Program
> St. Vincent Center for Children and Families for the Family Literacy Project
The Klenck Fund, administered by the Community Foundation Alliance of Evansville (the Vanderburgh Community Foundation is a member of the Alliance), has awarded more than $246,000 to nonprofit organizations throughout Daviess, Gibson, Knox, Perry, Pike, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh, and Warrick counties since it was established in 2007.
The fund was named in honor of Marilyn J. Klenck, former president and chief executive officer of the Community Foundation Alliance.
Grants will be presented at a reception at the Ohio Township Public Library's central library branch in Newburgh, Indiana, 3 to 5 pm (CDT), on April 11, 2011.
