Breaking the Cycle of Poverty

In 2009, the board of the Vanderburgh Community Foundation announced a plan to focus our efforts on an issue that will gain community-wide support and will improve the lives of all of our residents through economic development and social impact.

The Community Coalition Committee was formed to identify a community needs, based on the United Way Needs Assessment, that have been deemed as having high priority and low resources.  Through this process, the issue that has been identified as being our first priortie is Breaking the Cycle of Generational Poverty

We have commissioned University of Southern Indiana to conduct a study of our community to determine the root causes of generational poverty and the services and support that are already in place to address the issue.

Beginning in January 2010, we expect to gather a coalition of business, government, and community leaders to develop a community-wide plan to Break the Cycle.
