2009 Lilly Scholars
Only the best and the brightest of Vanderburgh County receive this scholarship award, and these students are to be commended on their exceptional academic performance, participation in school activities, their character, community activities, writing skills, and personal poise. We offer our congratulations to the following scholars for their outstanding achievements!
Andrew Ritter
Andrew Ritter, son of Daniel and Mary Ritter, is a graduate of Mater Dei High School. He has achieved a stellar academic record, while displaying leadership, talent, and service to his community. Andrew is a member of the National Honor Society and was president this year; he was team captain this and last year of the Academic Superbowl; he is an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts and was a junior assistant scoutmaster throughout his high school years; and he is governance co-chair of the Youth Resources Teen Advisory Council. Andrew is captain of the varsity tennis and swimming teams and was a member of the track and field team. Among these and several other school activities, he is a volunteer at the Posey County Homeless Shelter. Andrew plans to attend the University of Notre Dame in the fall, where he plans to major in chemical engineering.
Andrew Savage
Andrew Savage, a graduate of Harrison High School, is the son of David and Rebecca Savage. Andrew is a member and past president of Business Professionals of America and a member of the Key Club and German Club. Along with a variety of sports activities, including soccer, cycling, golf, and basketball, Andrew has participated as a music leader and service team member for Evansville Chrysalis, as a music leader and Bible study leader for Aldersgate Youth Group, a volunteer for the Aurora Homeless Project, and a junior leader and bible study organizer for Younglife. He plans to pursue a degree in engineering at Purdue University in the fall.
Alex White
Alex White, son of Paul White, is a graduate of Harrison High School. The son of Paul White, Alex is a member of the Evansville Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, EVSC Honors Orchestra, ISSMA Solo and Ensemble, and was second violinist in the 2008 Harrison Musical Pit. He is a participant in Peer Tutoring, Link Crew, Mended Hearts, and the Spanish Club as well as the varsity bowling team. Alex was a clean-up volunteer after the 2005 tornado and volunteers his musical talents at local nursing homes. Alex plans to pursue a pharmacy degree at Butler University in the fall.
Tyler Perfitt
Tyler Perfitt, son of Mark and Diane Perfitt, is a graduate of North High School, where he has demonstrated leadership and initiative. Tyler helped bring the first chapter of the Kiwanis Key Club to North and served as the chapter's president. He was a member of Student Council, executive council member of the National Honor Society, and vice president and then president of the Spanish Club. He participated in the Starpower Anti-drug Campaign, Art Club, Spell Bowl and Academic Superbowl, and Student Mentors as well as varsity swimming. Tyler volunteers his time for the Optimists Club, Children's Museum of Evansville, and CJ's Bus. In the fall, he plans to attend DePauw University to study biochemistry.
